The Basic Reading course is for students who need to expand their vocabulary and basic comprehension skills. Vocabulary topics include using the context, using the dictionary, and learning common prefixes and roots. Comprehension topics include pre-reading strategies, recognizing main ideas, monitoring comprehension, recognizing organization, inference, and distinguishing fact from opinion.

Students enrolled in Basic Reading must also be enrolled in a corresponding section of Basic Reading Lab.
