Northern Essex Community College offers three developmental writing courses: English Writing Skills, Introduction to Basic Writing and Basic Writing.

They provide instruction in composing, revising, editing and word processing a series of progressively more demanding essays.

Placement into the course is determined by the college’s assessment process.

Individualized assistance and instruction is provided to students by the staff of the Writing Center. Students who are enrolled in Basic Writing will be required to use the Writing Center.
