Do you have a penchant for computers and CSI detective programs? Then Northern Essex’s Certificate in Computer Forensics is for you. Computer and digital forensics is an emerging discipline that focuses on the acquisition, recovery, documentation and analysis of digital information on computers, cell phones, PDAs and other digital devices. A computer forensics investigation determines what happened, when it happened, how it happened and who was involved. Digital evidence may be used for civil, criminal and administrative proceedings.
NECC’s Certificate in Computer Forensics will teach you how to properly collect, authenticate, analyze, document and present evidence. You will gain a fundamental understanding of information security principles, learn about the types of attacks and malicious code that may be used against a computer, and obtain knowledge of the threats and countermeasures for e-mail, web, wireless, and identity theft. You will receive an introduction to the criminal justice system in the United States, and an in-depth review of substantive criminal law in the federal and state systems.
The completion of this certificate will allow you to pursue many career paths. Careers in computer forensics can either be in public careers such as law enforcement agencies including police, attorney general offices and federal agencies, or in private security and forensics companies. As an added skill, computer forensics can enhance many careers in criminal justice or information technology.
