Elementary Education Associate Degree
Would you like to teach children in grades 1 – 6? Are you patient, enthusiastic, and energetic? Do you have good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills? If you answered yes to these questions, you have the qualities essential for a successful career as an elementary school teacher.
At Northern Essex, the Associate Degree in Elementary Education will prepare you for a career in the field of education. The program gives you the foundation for further study at a four-year college in order to become a licensed teacher, and provides you with a strong basis in arts and sciences through Liberal Arts courses. Through the career classes, you will integrate theory and practice, acquire knowledge of child growth and development, develop sensitivity to cultural needs, and gain an understanding of special education and the reading process. Educational courses focus on the current Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
Graduates will be able to pursue many career paths. Upon completion of the program, you can seek employment as a paraprofessional (teaching assistant). You may also choose to transfer to a bachelor’s program to become qualified to seek employment as a licensed teacher.
Ready to get started? It’s easy! Northern Essex has an open admissions policy, which means that if you have a high school diploma or GED/HiSet or other state-approved equivalency credential, you are eligible to enroll at NECC. Just fill out an application, attend an orientation/assessment session, and then register for classes.
