Program Overview

Sport and fitness enthusiasts…if you are interested in working in a profession that helps people of all ages improve the quality of their life, then the physical activity discipline may be just what you are looking for. A career in the constantly expanding physical activity field can be both exciting and rewarding. 

NECC’s Associate Degree in General Studies: Movement Science Option is designed for students who want to study the discipline of physical activity and explore physical education and the various related career options. The general studies curriculum, combined with the program-specific physical activity courses, allows you to attain a well-rounded, educational foundation. Program graduates will also gain theoretical knowledge and practical experiences in fitness, health and lifetime sports skills.

Additional Opportunities

As a student in this program, you are encouraged to become involved in a variety of on-campus and off-campus physical activity programs to gain experience and build your resume. On-campus experiences include personal training in the Wellness & Fitness Center, working with our collegiate athletics teams, assisting with intramural sports, or working on campus with outside groups such as youth sports and recreation programs. Students have participated in off-campus activities working with people of all ages at organizations such as the YMCAs, the Boys & Girls Clubs, senior centers and area schools.

Getting Started

Ready to get started? It’s easy! Northern Essex has an open admissions policy, which means that if you have a high school diploma or GED you are eligible to enroll at NECC. Just fill out an application, attend an orientation/assessment session, and then register for classes.
