If you would like to combine working in healthcare and working with computers, a career in Computed Tomography (CT) may be for you. Computed Tomography is a rapidly growing advanced imaging technology that creates cross-sectional and three-dimensional images of the body using radiation and computers.
This program is designed for technologists with no CT experience who want to learn how to perform CT, and for those experienced CT technologists who would like assistance in preparing to take the national certification exam in CT, offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), through a formal program of study. Applicants must be graduates of an accredited imaging program and hold a current ARRT certification in Radiography, Nuclear Medicine or Radiation Therapy or current certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Board (NMTCB).
By completing the Certificate in Computed Tomography at NECC, you will study normal cross- sectional anatomy and learn how common pathologies appear on CT images. You will gain an understanding of the physical principles of CT and how the CT equipment functions as well as radiation protection and safety measures specific to CT. You will also learn the special requirements needed for caring for patients in today’s CT departments.
Graduates will be able to pursue many career paths, and can work as entry-level CT technologists in hospitals and outpatient imaging centers. There is an ongoing need for technologists who have CT training and experience. Job prospects are very good and are expected to continue to grow.
