Medical Coding Certificate
Effective Fall 2013 this Program will ONLY be OFFERED in
Medical Coders play an important role in reimbursement and compliance in the health care system. They rely on their knowledge of disease processes and consult classification manuals to accurately assign codes to medical diagnoses, procedures and services for which the health care providers will be reimbursed. If you are detail-oriented, have strong computer skills, and are seeking a career in health care that does not involve working directly with the patients, the Certificate in Medical Coding may be for you.
At NECC, the Certificate in Medical Coding has been designed for entry-level positions. Courses include medical language, anatomy and physiology and fundamentals of the disease process, as well as those which are coding specific. Upon completion of the program, graduates may apply a variety of health care settings. Completion will also grant them flexible hours and a challenging workload.
Graduates will be able to pursue many career paths. Medical coders work in a variety of health care settings including hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, medical insurance companies, government agencies, and coding service offices. Job opportunities are very good and are expected to grow.
