Are you interested in a career in law? Do you enjoy reading, research, and writing? Then a career as a paralegal could be for you. Paralegals assist lawyers in a wide range of duties, including conducting research, writing drafts of legal documents, interviewing clients, and providing administrative support. If you enjoy a challenge, can work independently as well as part of a team, and have good attention to detail, you have the qualities essential for a successful career as a paralegal.

At NECC, the Associate in Science Degree in Paralegal Studies: Career Option is for you if you plan on seeking employment after receiving your associate degree and do not plan to further your education. This option focuses on the practical aspects of the profession and, because Career Option students do not plan to transfer to a four-year institution, this option offers you more flexibility with electives. If you plan on transferring after NECC to earn your bachelor’s degree, the Associate in Science Degree in Paralegal Studies: Transfer Option is for you.

Graduates will be able to pursue many career paths. NECC’s Paralegal Studies Program will provide you with a credential for employment in a law office, corporate office, government agency, or other facility under the supervision of an attorney. While paralegals assist attorneys with a wide range of tasks, paralegals must not set fees, give legal opinions or advice, or represent a client before a court or agency.

This program is approved by the American Bar Association and is an institutional member of the American Association for Paralegal Education and the Massachusetts Paralegal Association.
