ServSafe Certification

Safe food handling is critical to keeping customers and co-workers safe.  Offered in association with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, ServSafe is a comprehensive eight-hour course that provides an overview of basic sanitation policies and procedures and prepares you to pass the ServSafe Certification exam given during the last class.  Students who pass the exam will be awarded the ServSafe Certification by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.

Certified Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide Prep Program NEW!

This 150-hour daytime program prepares students to sit for the state licensing test to become Certified Nurse Aides and also become a Home Health Aide. The program meets Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm and includes theory, clinical skills, and clinical practice at a long-term care facility under the supervision of a registered nurse. Community Action of Haverhill provides this six-week nurse aide training program in partnership with Northern Essex Community College Center for Corporate and Community Education. Sessions are scheduled to begin on March 24.

Health Care Provider CPR

Intended for the healthcare provider who cares for patients in a variety of settings, this course teaches CPR for victims of all ages. Topics include ventilation with a barrier device, bag-mask device, oxygen, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). Includes the adult signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, and choking. Students are encouraged to register early, obtain their books from our office one week prior to class start, and become familiar with the contents prior to the start of class. Lunch on your own.

Medical Interpreting Certificate Program  NEW!

In Massachusetts, where interpreters are legally mandated in acute care hospitals and behavioral health hospitals, there is a critical need for trained medical interpreters.  Medical interpreters are in great demand throughout the nation in a variety of other settings as well.  This 54-hour course provides a working knowledge of the various aspects of medical interpreting including standards of practice, ethics, HIPAA regulations, cultural competency, role plays, and medical vocabulary development.  Students must be able to fully comprehend and communicate in both English and at least one other language.  Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and/or medical terminology is recommended.  Please register early as a brief language assessment is required.  Offered in partnership with TransFluenci EDU, a leader in interpreting, translation, and training services, this program meets the requirements of the National Board for Medical Interpreter Certification.  The instructor is an experienced medical interpreter who will also provide guidance with how to find a job in this field.  Please see our website or contact Dianne Lahaye at dlahaye@necc.mass.edu for more information.
