Interior Decoration Certificate Program

This program is for you if you’re interested in entering the decorating field or just want more knowledge of interior decoration principles. Take only those courses that interest you or complete five courses (the Fundamentals of Interior Decoration plus 4 courses) to earn the certificate. This program also prepares you to become a Certified Professional Decorator through the Decorator’s Alliance of North America.

The Fundmentals of Interior Decoration

This hands-on course provides a broad overview of the fundamental process, tools, concepts, principles and language of interior decoration, including color theory and psychology, furniture styles and placement. It also provides the underpinning for all other courses in the program and is a requirement for the certificate of completion.

Kitchen and Bath Planning Basics

Learn the essentials of designing and remodeling kitchens and baths, including selection of materials, planning the budget, determining value for money spent, life disruption concerns, potential contractor and construction issues, plus special considerations related to the age of the home.

Intro to DreamDraper

DreamDraper software helps you easily create professional, true-to-life drawings that provide you and your clients with fabulous visuals! You’ll learn and use its basic functions and explore its window treatment, floor planning, and accessorizing design capabilities. Requires computer literacy.  Materials fee includes DreamDraper software for personal use plus for upcoming courses in the series.  Early registration is strongly recommended to assure you have the software for the 1st class.

The Business of Interior Decoration

Learn critical business skills needed by interior decorators, including calculating costs and budgets, determining and negotiating fees, creating proposals and contracts, managing your projects, setting up your workspace and office plus targeting and marketing to a specific client base.

Window Treatments, Bedding, and Upholstery

Learn the styles, trends, and suitability of various soft and hard window treatment options to change the look and feel of every room. Includes fabric selection, yardage calculations, installation requirements, sourcing materials, and workrooms plus explore the income potential of this specialty area. While the emphasis is on window treatments, you’ll also explore how to coordinate bedding and use upholstery to create a spectacular look.
