Interior Decoration Certificate Program

This program is for you if you’re interested in entering the decorating field or just want more knowledge of interior decoration principles. Take only those courses that interest you or complete five courses (the Fundamentals of Interior Decoration plus 4 courses) to earn the certificate. This program also prepares you to become a Certified Professional Decorator through the Decorator’s Alliance of North America.

The Fundamentals of Interior Decoration

This hands-on course provides a broad overview of the fundamental process, tools, concepts, principles and language of interior decoration, including color theory and psychology, furniture styles and placement. It also provides the underpinning for all other courses in the program and is a requirement for the certificate of completion.

Learn to use existing furniture, basic staging, and interior décor principles to stage a home for sale.  You’ll also explore pricing, business practices, marketing ideas and more in this practical information-packed course.

Window Treatments, Bedding and Upholstery

Learn the styles, trends and suitability of various soft and hard window treatment options to change the look and feel for every room; includes fabric selection, yardage calculations, installation requirements, sourcing materials and workrooms plus explore the income potential of this specialty area.  While the emphasis is on window treatments, you’ll also explore how to coordinate bedding and use upholstery to create a spectacular look.

Intro to DreamDraper

DreamDraper software helps you easily create professional true-to-life drawings that provide you and your clients with fabulous visuals! You’ll learn and use its basic functions and explore its window treatment, floor planning and accessorizing design capabilities. Requires computer literacy. Materials fee includes DreamDraper software for personal use plus for upcoming courses in the series.

Intro to SketchUp for Interior Decorators

SketchUp is a simple yet amazingly powerful software tool for creating, viewing, and modifying 3D ideas quickly and easily, combining the spontaneity of pencil sketching with the speed and flexibility of today’s digital media. You’ll create photorealistic views of interior or exterior spaces, combined with styles, shadows and 3D walk-through animations. Bring thumb drive to save projects worked on in class. Software can be downloaded for free at home.

SketchUp Part 2  NEW!

Continuation from Intro to SketchUp for Interior Decorators, students will learn more advanced camera tools for navigation around their model and exporting 2D graphic images and 3D video files.  Use of sand box tools will be covered to integrate terrain and geography into their model.  Introduction to Layout software (provided with SketchUp Pro) will be used to create a working sheet set for a completed project.
