The Student Senate represents the student body and NECC. Student Senators represent students on various issues and concerns, recommend a spending plan for the Student Activities Fund (SAF) to the college president, and oversee the student clubs and organizations funded by the SAF.
There are a total of 25 senators representing various academic areas and student groups on both Northern Essex campuses. Ten of these seats are appointed: five for the largest clubs and five for the member of the Leadership Development Program. The remaining seats are elected by students.
As a student senator, you can develop your leadership skills, gain communications skills, build a network, get involved with college-wide activities and improve student life. Additionally, you have use of an office for Senate business on the Haverhill campus and can attend a yearly statewide conference.
In addition to being appointed to the Senate as a club member or Leadership Development Program participant, you can be elected by your fellow students. Elections are held during the spring semester for the fall. Special elections may be held at other times based on vacancy needs.
