GED Testing

General Information

The Massachusetts Department of Education issues a Massachusetts State High School Equivalency Diploma to adults who successfully complete the General Educational Development (GED) Test Battery. The battery consists of five (5) timed multiple-choice tests: Language Arts: Writing, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts: Reading, and Mathematics. See Series Tests Page for more details about these tests.

The GED test is designed to measure your ability to understand and use information or ideas. In many cases you are asked to use the information provided to solve a problem, and to analyze and evaluate information. The test does not require you to answer questions about narrow definitions or specific facts. Instead, the questions focus on the major and lasting skills and knowledge expected of high school graduates.
