ABE or Adult Basic Education is an umbrella term that describes a range of educational services for adults; from basic literacy, numeracy, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), high school equivalency (GED), adult diploma programs (ADP) and Transition to College.
These programs help adult learners to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence that will serve them in their roles as family members, parents, community leaders and employees, as well as with post-secondary education and training.
The CAEPP also provides professional development opportunities to faculty and other adult basic education providers through Northeast System for Adult Basic Education Support (Northeast SABES). It promotes high-quality adult basic education services in Massachusetts through training, support, and resources that improve the skills and knowledge of practitioners and strengthen programs. Northeast SABES is part of a statewide staff development system for adult basic education programs and practitioners.
