Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services works closely with campus and community resources to coordinate and provide an optimal array of communication access services and accommodations for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Provides:

  • Communication access for students who are deaf or hard of hearing and referral to the Learning Accommodations Center for some services (notetaking, and assistive listening devices,) and accommodations for additional documented disabilities.
  • Coordination of communication access providers for all campus-related activities including on-going classes, tutorials, advising sessions, meetings and other situations as requested and approved. Services are provided to students, staff and community members who are deaf or hard of hearing and participate in college activities, programs and services.
  • Consultation and training for staff, faculty, administrators, students and the community about the College’s legal obligations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act and Amendments

Services Offered:

Collaboration with the Learning Accommodations Center:

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services works in close partnership with the Learning Accommodations Center to enable the college to meet legal obligations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act and Amendments. The Learning Accommodations Center coordinates certain learning accommodations (i.e. notetaking, assistive listening devices, etc.) for students approved for these accommodations through Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. The two offices work together to support and accommodate students who are deaf and hard of hearing with additional documented disabilities.  Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services and the Learning Accommodations Center frequently collaborate to provide consultation and training for staff, faculty, administrators, students and the community on campus wide access, advocacy, diversity and culture.
