HiSET Massachusetts State Requirements

Each state may have its own requirements for testing, so be sure to check your state’s requirements before you schedule an appointment to take the test.

HiSET Test Content

The HiSET® exam includes five subtests that you can schedule to take in any order:

  • Language Arts – Reading
  • Language Arts – Writing
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies

  • Revised Calculator Policy for HiSET® Testing in Massachusetts: The HiSET® Mathematics Test is designed so test takers do not have to use a calculator; however, beginning April 1, 2016, Massachusetts will allow test takers to use the Casio FX-260Solar calculator and it will be the official calculator for use on the HiSET® Mathematics Test. A calculator may not be used on any other test.
    • For paper-based HiSET® testing, the Casio FX-260Solar calculator will be issued automatically to all examinees at the beginning of the test.
    • For computer-based HiSET® testing, the Casio FX-260Solar calculator will be available to any examinee who requests it instead of the drop-down four function calculator on the computer.
