Northern Essex Community College had a very impressive inaugural season winning six events at the NJCAA Northeast District Championship in Maryland. The meet was highlighted by the women’s program 4th with four student-athletes scoring a whopping 62 points. The men also had a fine showing finishing 7th.
The following week, NECC crowned its first National Champion in any sport with James Mwangi winning the 400 meter crown. Under Coach Caputo’s guidance, laura Rudd also earned All American honors in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs. NECC also placed in the top eight places in the women’s 400 meter run, discus, and shot put, and in the men’s javelin and long jump respectively.
