Professor Zannini brings a wealth of experience to his business classroom at Northern Essex. He’s worked in high level research and development positions for major corporations—at one time 185 people reported to him—and helped develop high tech start-ups from the ground up. Through it all, he’s learned a lot about business. Since joining the college’s faculty in 2004, his passion has been sharing what he’s learned with his students.
His favorite topic is entrepreneurship and he has developed two courses—“Introduction to Entrepreneurship” and “Launching the Enterprise: The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Financial Success”—which are now offered days and evenings, due to their popularity. He also started a business plan competition at the college which is held each spring and awards students scholarships for developing winning business plans.
Professor Zannini views entrepreneurship skills as essential. “We teach life skills,” says Professor Zannini. “These skills are vital to every student, whether they want to start their own business or not.”
What Professor Zannini finds most rewarding is when students actually start their own business. It’s an “extraordinary feeling”, he says, and while he’s only taught at the college for six years, he has many success stories to share.
