Don’t Miss Roberto Clemente, a documentary film, at the Showcase Cinema, Lawrence, on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 10 a.m. These showings are FREE and open to the public.

Roberto Clemente is a one-hour documentary about an exceptional baseball player and committed humanitarian. Clemente challenged racial discrimination to become baseball’s first Latino superstar. Written, directed, and produced by independent filmmaker Bernardo Ruiz and narrated by Jimmy Smits, Roberto Clemente features interviews with Pulitzer Prize-winning authors David Maraniss (Clemente) and George F. Will (Men at Work: The Craft of Baseball), Clemente’s wife Vera, Baseball Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda, and former teammates, to present an intimate and revealing portrait of a man whose passion and grace made him a legend. The film originally aired on PBS’s American Experience, and won a 2008 NCLR ALMA Award.
