The Gallaudet University Academic Bowl is an exciting match of wits with the goals of promoting academic competition among school teams and fostering academic excellence and achievement among deaf and hard of hearing students across the country. Established in 1997, the Academic Bowl has become a nationally-recognized event offering hundreds of students the opportunity to improve their scholastic performance.
The top three teams from the Northeast Regional competition and a fourth-ranked team from across all five regional competitions will be invited to compete at a national level during the National High School Academic Bowl competitions, hosted at Gallaudet University March 9-12, 2013. The Regional and National High School Academic Bowl competitions began both as part of a literacy initiative and in order to better prepare deaf and hard of hearing students for college or gainful employment. Unforeseen benefits of the competition since its establishment have included heightened awareness of deaf students’ capabilities as well as an increased desire by those students to raise their own academic expectations.
