Twenty-two students volunteered on Saturday, September 26th from 8:30-4:00 to paint and revitalize the property at 240 Water Street, Haverhill which houses the Haverhill Historical Society and Buttonwoods Museum, a non-profit historic site in the middle of hundreds of years of Haverhill and Merrimack Valley history.
The property’s two smaller buildings, which include the John Ward House (home of Haverhill’s first resident) and the Daniel Hunkins Shoe Shop, needed a fresh coat of paint on their exteriors and the exhibition hall in the main building needed to be repainted in preparation for the auction and exhibit “The Sole and Soul of Haverhill”, which will take place later in October. Tee shirts and lunch were provided.
For the second year in a row, a group of NECC students and faculty spent a Saturday in April helping Rebuilding Together Greater Haverhill. Rebuilding Together, formerly Christmas in April, is part of the national annual effort to assist low income, elderly and disabled citizens with minor home repairs and yard work. Students this year worked alongside licensed carpenters at the home of an elderly disabled woman and later cleared a Haverhill city lot in preparation for a
public access park.
