Haverhill Firefighting Museum’s Chili Cook-off – Saturday, October 15, 2011 3pm-10pm

The Haverhill Firefighting Museum held their Fifth Annual Chili Cook-off on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 6 – 9 PM at the Museum, 75 Kenoza Avenue in Haverhill. Tasting and judging occurred from 6PM to 8PM. There was also a silent auction items, a 50/50 Raffle and door prizes.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Andover, MA – Sunday, October 2, 2011 7am-1:30pm

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s started at 9:30am at Brickstone Square in Andover and registration opened an hour prior. The organization received help with registration, directing walkers, assistance with children’s area, and other tasks. It was a one-morning commitment (and really fun) and students made a big impact in the town.

Restoring Whittier’s Birthplace – Saturday, September 24, 2011

On Saturday, September 24, 2011, NECC students volunteered to help repair and restore the property at John Greenleaf Whittier’s Birthplace off Route 110 in Haverhill. Tasks that day included: cleaning out the barn, as well as groundwork (weed removal, raking, etc.). Volunteers were given a tour of the museum and received a commemorative tee shirt, and water, lunch and snacks were provided.

Haverhill Firefighting Museum – Sunday, June 5, 2011

The Haverhill Firefighting Museum recruited volunteers on Sunday, June 5th, to assist them with their participation in Haverhill’s Cultural Treasures. They had their second annual Trolley Tour of Haverhill on Sunday, June 5th from 12-4. The event featured 4 open air trolleys traveling to each of the treasures venues. There was a historic and fun tour along the way and family activities on site.

On June 5th at each of the treasures organizations offered an activity or 2, the volunteers helped with that or helped people on and off the trolleys. They also needed a couple of people to ride trolleys and give the scripted tour. Also, prior to the event they needed to distribute flyers and posters to downtown businesses, senior housing, schools, etc..

Sarah’s Place Adult Day Health – Saturday, April 23, 2011 9am-3pm

Sarah’s Place is a non-profit adult day health center in Haverhill that provides day care services for the elderly and infirmed. On Saturday, April 23rd, a group of NECC students and staff volunteered to help paint the indoor facilities. All supplies were provided and volunteers received tee shirts for painting, snacks and lunch during the day.

Haverhill Fire Fighting Museum – Friday, April 1, 2011

A group of NECC students and faculty volunteered on Friday, April 1st to help clean and restore the Haverhill Fire Fighting Museum located on Kenoza Avenue in Haverhill. Volunteers cleaned artifacts and display cases, dusted antique engines, cleaned and reorganized the gift shop and set up tables and chairs. Volunteers received tee shirts, snacks, lunch and drinks.
