| Course Description | Dance in Performance will include a review of the basic techniques of Modern Dance, advance to more involved training in technique, movement and improvisation, and focus on the principles of dance production. Students will be introduced to production areas such as choreography, programming, costuming, lighting, public relations, audiovisual, special effects and budget, and they will participate in the final performance of the semester, Still Point, given for the community.

| Course Description | Afro-Caribbean Dance is a study of the fundamentals of West African (Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal) and Caribbean (Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Haiti and Cuba) dance styles. Emphasis is on cultivating relevant technique(s) as well as increasing self-expression through the learning of a new (or expanded) movement vocabulary. The course will include a study of ballet history and the objective criticism of dance. It will also explore connections to music, theater and art. Students will participate in a dance performance.

| Course Description | This course will offer instruction in Ballet technique and Ballet history. This course is an intermediate level building on Ballet I and Ballet II. One hour and forty minutes of class time will be spent practicing and learning intermediate classical ballet vocabulary. A study of basic body connections related to dance technique will provide for proper alignment, strength, endurance, flexibility, and expression. An additional one hour will be devoted to researching the life of one of America's greatest choreographers. Through observing, discussing, and writing movement ideas, a revised version on one of the choreographers' piece will be presented. A one-semester course; two credit hours.

| Course Description | Students in Ballet in Performance will refine their ballet technique both in the classroom and on stage. Class time will be divided to include; full participation in intermediate ballet technique in order to improve alignment, strength, flexibility, endurance and expression; the study of classical and contemporary theories in choreography; and practical strategies to prepare for performance. Students will participate in a performance at the end of the semester.

| Course Description | Jazz dance includes the development of barre and floor jazz technique from 20th and 21st century styles. Emphasis is on using ballet technique to produce strong, sharp movements, jumps and turns. Also included are originality, improvisation, and expression through syncopation of dance and music and grandiose body movements. Jazz history and connections to music are included. Students will participate in a dance performance.

| Course Description | Dance Pedagogy is the study of the theories and practices of teaching, in accordance with the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for the Arts. Students explore various classical dance and creative movement techniques, and integrate them into Lesson Plans for K-12, for use in either the school or dance studio setting. Basic elements of anatomy and physiology, nutrition and injury prevention are learned in the classroom. Hands-on learning at local studios and schools is required, in the form of observation and a supervised practicum.
PLEASE NOTE: CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information and/or SORI (Sex Offender Record Information) checks are required prior to participation in this course.

| Course Description | This course is a continuation of Dance Pedagogy I and will build on the teaching methods presented in Dance Pedagogy I. In this course students will focus on a particular age level and dance idiom of their choice by learning teaching methods suitable for their particular age group. They will use this information in a hands-on situation by selecting an off-campus site, such as a public school or dance studio, to apply and hone the skills learned on campus.
