| Course Description | Teaches skills in the management of patient medical accounts using standard healthcare third party billing methodologies. Topics include insurance claim life cycle, analysis of common medical programs such as Blue Cross, Medicare, Medicaid, HMOs etc., billing forms, recording account transactions, legal issues, and handling patient inquiries. | Course Description | Introduction to all aspects of the role of the medical transcriptionist, focusing on dermatology; urology; gastrointestinal; orthopedics; cardiology; respiratory; obstetrics/gynecology; ears, nose and throat; ophthalmology; neurology; psychiatry and immunity/cancer as well as introduction to radiology; pharmacology and laboratory medicine with intensive technical training in medical transcription. Professionalism and HIPAA compliance are key components in this introduction class.

The coding systems applied will be ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 and billing for a variety of third party payers. (Note: Students must provide own transportation. Malpractice insurance is necessary.
