FAQ About NECC Scholarships
Q. Who is eligible for a Friends of NECC Scholarship?
Current NECC Students who meet all the Friends of NECC Scholarship requirements:
- Must have 9 credits completed at Northern Essex by the end of the Fall 2012 semester
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Register for Fall 2013 semester for a minimum of 6 credits by May 17, 2013.
- Completed application forms should include:
- Check off personal information boxes on application form (some scholarships require this voluntary personal information)
- Second Essay if required
- Answer 2 essay questions on online application
- Letter of Recommendation
Q. I’m an incoming freshman can I apply for a scholarship?
NECC’s Alumni Office offers scholarships for incoming freshman. Please contact the Alumni Office at 978-556-3621.
Q. Does NECC offer any Transfer Scholarships?
Yes. NECC Transfer Scholarship awards are for students transferring to a Baccalaureate school.
Q. What types of scholarships does NECC offer?
NECC offers many types of scholarships including:
- General Scholarships (Requirements: minimum 2.5 GPA, 9 credits completed at Northern Essex, registered for 6 credits.) Explain any financial need. Forms are available on our website.
- Transfer scholarships
- Incoming Freshman Scholarships
Q. Where do I get an NECC General Scholarship application?
Scholarship application forms are available online. (from February 1, 2013 – April 12, 2013)
Q. What do I do once I have a scholarship application?
Complete the application and submit any additional requirements by email to scholarships@necc.mass.edu by the deadline date.
Q. When will I know if I have or have not received a scholarship award?
Letters will be mailed out to all applicants by the middle of July 2013.
Q. How will I receive my scholarship award?
The award letter will have instructions on how to receive your award. Once all requirements have been met, the Financial Aid Office will be notified of your award and will credit your account.
Q. How do I receive my Transfer Scholarship award?
Transfer Scholarship recipients must submit a copy of their transfer school tuition bill by mail to:

Once Northern Essex receives your bill, your scholarship award will be mailed directly to your school.
Q. What should I write in my personal statement?
Your personal statement helps the scholarship committees get to know you. Your personal statement is where you can stand out from the rest of the applicants.
Talk about your interest in your program/major you have chosen, your personal or professional goals and/or achievements, or your experience at NECC and how NECC has impacted your life. Explain any financial need.
Q. I receive Financial Aid, can I apply for a scholarship?
Yes. Receiving Financial Aid does NOT prevent you from applying for a scholarship.
Q. If I do not have Financial Aid, can I apply for a scholarship?
Yes, all eligible NECC students can apply.
Q. Can I apply for a scholarship every year?
Yes. Receiving a scholarship does not prevent you from applying again the next year.
