Northern Essex Community College has a number of scholarship awards available to students from private donors, through the Office of Institutional Advancement located on our Haverhill Campus, Bentley Library – Room A317.

Please review all instructions and eligibility requirements prior to applying.

(students transferring to another institution)

Scholarship

A transfer scholarship for students entering a baccalaureate school.  Award is $4,000 ($2,000/year for two years for a student in good standing.)
  • Must verify acceptance at a 4 year college
  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA
  • Financial Need
  • Two letters of recommendation from staff or faculty
  • Personal statement (minimum 250 words)

Haverhill Community Television Transfer Scholarship The Haverhill Community Television Scholarship is a transfer scholarship for students entering a baccalaureate school in Fall of 2013. Award is $5,000 ($2,500/year for two years for a student in good standing.)
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  • Copy of acceptance letter from baccalaureate school
  • Essay (250 words): How do you believe the emerging new media and technology will impact the future of local news gathering and dissemination?
  • One letter of recommendation
  • Must be receiving Associate’s Degree in LA: Journalism/Communication
  • Merrimack Valley resident

Dr. John Spurk Memorial Scholarship
$500 award
Check the box on the NECC Scholarship Application
  • Must have 12 Liberal Arts credits completed
  • Minimum GPA 3.2
  • Register for Fall 2013 semester by May 17, 2013 with minimum 6 credits (only if returning student)
  • Liberal Arts major
  • Merrimack Valley resident
  • Complete online scholarship application form
  • Submit letter of recommendation (faculty or advisor preferred)
  • Additional essay: 200-500 words: “How may a student use his/her education to improve his/her life and the world in general and make a contribution to society?”

PACE Transfer Scholarship
*Students participating in the PACE Program will be automatically entered for this scholarship if you submit this application and requirements.
  • Students must be participants in PACE Program
  • Must have 9 credits completed at NECC by end of Fall 2012 semester
  • Minimum GPA 2.5
  • Complete online scholarship application form

  • Personal Statement (minimum 250 words)
    • Tell us about yourself and include information about your need for financial assistance, interest in the program major you have chosen, personal or professional goals and/or achievements and how NECC has impacted your life. (Submit with name and ID# to scholarships@necc.mass.edu. If you need assistance in writing your personal statement contact the Academic Resource and Tutoring Center at 978-556-3422.)
  • Letter of Recommendation
    • This can be from a current or past faculty member, advisor or employer (no family members). Ask the person writing the letter to email it to scholarships@necc.mass.edu or mail to Institutional Advancement, Northern Essex Community College, 100 Elliott Street, Haverhill, MA 01830.

Payment Information for Transfer Scholarship Awards

Awards are paid directly to the student’s transfer school. Recipients must forward a copy of their transfer school tuition bill to:

Instructions will be included in the scholarship award letter.

Recipients of transfer awards will be notified prior to graduation and must be willing to write a thank you note to the scholarship donor and participate in a group photograph.
