Work Study Opportunities

Work-Study opportunities are available for on-campus or approved off-campus positions. NECC encourages students to work in community service and/or to find work related to their course of study. To apply for one of the Open Positions listed below, please contact the supervisor directly by email.

FWS Application Process

  • Students can apply for FWS positions by viewing open positions, and contacting supervisors of positions they are eligible for, and for which they wish to apply. If you wish to check whether you would be eligible for work-study, contact Financial Aid.
  • If hired, a student must complete all required forms and receive confirmation of authorization from the NECC Work-Study coordinator before he/she can start working.

Job Title: CIT Lab Assistant

Department/Agency: Center for Instructional Technology and Distance Learning

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Student will assist CIT staff in a variety of duties that include the following, but are not limited to: Collaborate with staff to create and design educational content. Assist staff on Blackboard initiatives. Edit different types of materials. Troubleshoot technical problems and help identify solutions. Research sources of information. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Proficiency in Windows and Mac platforms. Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint 2010. Proficiency in web functions: downloading, uploading files, tabbed browsing, advanced use of search engines, social media. Experience using Blackboard as a student. Have an “eye for detail” and have excellent typing skills. Be reliable and able to work independently and on a team. Be professional and able to maintain confidentiality. Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.

Job Title: Jumpstart Corps Member

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Jumpstart Corps member position is open to caring adults committed to Jumpstart’s mission to work toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed and who are able to serve 10-15 hours per week (for a total of at least 200 to 300 hours) during the school year.  Corps members work in preschool classrooms with children from low-income backgrounds to help them build skills crucial to school success. Responsibilities include participating in two two-hour Jumpstart sessions each week with preschool children and team, participating in two team planning meetings each week, serving four to six hours each week in a preschool classroom during the regular school day, communicating with children’s families and sharing strategies for helping children, participating in intensive pre- and in-service training, and attending periodic service days. 

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Availability on M/W or T/Th from 2:30 pm – 6:00 pm, desire to work with young children, reliable, dedicated, professional attitude and ability to work on a team.

Successfully solicit monetary donations from NECC Alumni and Friends; Exercise effective communication skills to demonstrate knowledge of and enthusiasm for NECC, its benefits and programs; Build relationships with alumni and encourage them to stay connected with their alma mater; Record data accurately; Meet phonathon performance standards (each caller will be assigned goals each night).

Job Title: Recreation Assistant

Job Description/Responsibilities: 

Assist in overseeing the Recreation Area and Snack Bar.  This include serving snack bar items and cleaning the area as well.  Will also be responsible for distributing and collecting recreational equipment.  Work home athletic events, assist in setup, breakdown, and game statistics.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Good communication and interpersonal skills, dependable, and able to work in a fast paced environment.  Must be proficient in money handling;  Must be available to work during the hours of 10am – 1pm.  Must have a working knowledge of the game of basketball.  Some nights and weekends required for game coverage.

Classes are Thursday nights at NECC Riverwalk campus 5:30 – 9:30 pm.  Student will report to Program Coordinator and work directly with the MyMathLab (MML) instructor and be able to assist students when they need explanations.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Student will have a knowledge of basic math and basic Algebra 1.  Having used the MML program is a plus.

Job Description/Responsibilities:  

Class is for students studying to take the HiSET (GED) test.  Classes are Wednesday night, 5:30 – 9:30 at the NECC Lawrence Riverwalk Campus.  This is a multi-level class so students will have a lesson but then be working on their own (with an assignment).  Students will report to the Program Coordinator, however, they will work directly with the classroom instructor.

Ability to assist students who are at different levels with their assignments.

Student will assist the Center for Professional Development (CPD) staff in a variety of duties that include the following, but are not limited to: Assist faculty and staff with basic and intermediate computer learning, accessing Atomic learning modules on Blackboard.

Assist faculty/staff in finding answers to questions and create “how-to” materials in response to “Frequently Asked Questions.”  Troubleshoot technical problems and help identify solutions. Help to maintain the physical Space in the CPD. Other duties as assigned.
