Work Study Opportunities

Work-Study opportunities are available for on-campus or approved off-campus positions. NECC encourages students to work in community service and/or to find work related to their course of study. To apply for one of the Open Positions listed below, please contact the supervisor directly by email.

FWS Application Process

  • Students can apply for FWS positions by viewing open positions, and contacting supervisors of positions they are eligible for, and for which they wish to apply. If you wish to check whether you would be eligible for work-study, contact Financial Aid.
  • If hired, a student must complete all required forms and receive confirmation of authorization from the NECC Work-Study coordinator before he/she can start working.

Job Title: Math Lab Tutor

  • Department/Agency: CAEPP
  • Location: Lawrence Riverwalk Campus
  • Weekly Hours: 4
  • Pay Rate: $10/hr

 Job Description/Responsibilities:  

Classes are Thursday nights at NECC Riverwalk campus 5:30 – 9:30 pm.  Student will report to Program Coordinator and work directly with the MyMathLab (MML) instructor and be able to assist students when they need explanations.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Student will have a knowledge of basic math and basic Algebra 1.  Having used the MML program is a plus.

Job Title: Math Tutor

  • Location: Lawrence Riverwalk Campus
  • Weekly Hours: 4
  • Pay Rate: $10/hr

Job Description/Responsibilities:  

Class is for students studying to take the HiSET (GED) test.  Classes are Wednesday night, 5:30 – 9:30 at the NECC Lawrence Riverwalk Campus.  This is a multi-level class so students will have a lesson but then be working on their own (with an assignment).  Students will report to the Program Coordinator, however, they will work directly with the classroom instructor.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Ability to assist students who are at different levels with their assignments.

Job Title: Program Assistant

  • Department/Agency: Corporate and Community Education/ CAEPP
  • Location: Lawrence, MA
  • Weekly Hours: 15
  • Pay Rate: $10/hr

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Classes are Monday through Thursday nights at NECC’s Riverwalk Campus from 5:30-9:30 pm. Will report to the program coordinator and assist with photocopying, filing, phone calls and emails to absent students.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Student will have good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Job Title: MRWC Environmental Education Intern

  • Department/Agency: Merrimack River Watershed Council, Inc.
  • Location: Lawrence, MA
  • Weekly Hours: 15
  • Pay Rate: $10/hr

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Assist with educational outreach and program activity for families and schools, including newsletters, web, and programs. Assist with grants involving public outreach.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Environmental or Biology major or interest in environmental studies. Outreach experience. Prefer students with interest in behavior change and social marketing.

Job Title: Assistant to Labstaff

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Familiar with MS Office; answer phones; assist college community as needed; setup wireless accounts; enforce policies of the computer lab; ability to assist in solving computer problems.  Good communication skills and interpersonal skills, the ability to work with minimum supervision and able to follow instructions.  Candidate must be able to commit to a regular schedule.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Familiar with MS Office; basic troubleshooting skills; good communication skills and interpersonal skills; dependable and able to work in a fast paced environment.

Job Title: Program Assistant

Job Description/Responsibilities: 

Provide ongoing program support with our team for outreach initiatives. Duties include clerical work, communications, poster and flyer design, media and PR as well as initial event planning and execution of special events. Responsible for attending weekly meetings, project update and report and attendance at programs. Must have own transportation as some travel is necessary.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Excellent computer skills, graphic design experience, communication skills and being a self-starter. Reliable attendance ability to follow through.

Job Title: School Age Child Care Staff

Job Description/Responsibilities: 

Responsible for working with school aged children after school. Provide tutoring and homework help, assist in leading games and activities, and be a general role model for children.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Must have HS diploma or equivalent. Experience working with children a plus.

Job Title: Lawrence Community Student Assistant

  • Department/Agency: Lawrence Campus and Community Relations

 Job Description/Responsibilities: 

The Lawrence Campus Community Relations Team is looking for energetic students to assist with off-campus activities as official envoys for the college. These student will be exposed to what the Lawrence community has to offer while showing the community the real faces of NECC.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Knowledge of Microsoft Office and telephone protocol is a must. Administrative skills required include: phone, filing, data entry, customer service-interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills. We are looking for candidates who are detail oriented and can multi-task. ESL students are encouraged to apply. Bi-lingual preferred.

2. Phone Outreach to Prospective students to register and take assessment test

6. Administer Information Session in the absence of Admissions Counselors

Minimum Job Qualifications:

HS Diploma, positive attitude, responsible, excellent communication skills, great phone personality, public speaking skills.
