Honors Project

An Honors Project is either a research paper, field experiment, or creative project completed in a course. This work is in addition to the normal course requirements, and does not count as part of the course grade, although you must receive a grade of B or better in the course to receive honors credit for the project on your transcript.

E. Burke

The faculty member teaching the course must agree to be your Honors Project mentor. You will meet with your faculty mentor throughout the semester. He or she will help you develop a thesis question, provide guidance on sources and give feedback on written drafts.

At the end of the semester you must produce a 10-15 page paper approved by your mentor (documented in MLA or APA format), present your Honors Project to your class, and attend the Honors Poster Session. If you have chosen to do a creative project you must have the completed work along with a written explanation of your piece, or written narrative of the process of completing the project.

Each honors course or project will be so designated on the student's transcript. Students who complete all of the Honors Experience requirements and who graduate from Northern Essex Community College will receive special recognition at graduation and a Commonwealth Honors Program Scholar seal on their diploma.
