Three Northern Essex Community College employees, Tammy Foster of Amesbury, Bill Heineman of Chelmsford and Carrie Kutny of Atkinson, NH, recently received the college’s Employee Performance Recognition Award for the second quarter of 2007. The Employee Recognition Award was started by NECC President David Hartleb, as a way to recognize the many and varied contributions of the college’s nearly 700 employees. Employees are selected each quarter based on recommendations from supervisors and co-workers. Recipients receive a $100 certificate to the restaurant or mall of their choice.

Tammy Foster has worked as an administrative assistant in the Developmental Education department for eight years. She was nominated by adjunct faculty member Gretchyn Gallagher who wrote "The selection criteria [for this award] states that an employee should meet at least one of the criteria on the list. Tammy has exceeded in meeting eight. She has extremely high work standards and has consistently high on-the-job performance." Gallagher went on to write that "Tammy has empathy for students and for faculty, and does everything in her power to make people feel comfortable at the college."

A nearly 11-year veteran of NECC, Bill Heineman, assistant dean in the Business, Science, Math & Technology division, was nominated by faculty in the Business department, including Pam Donahue, John Sabbagh, Bill Zannini, Kelly Lalonde, Wayne Kibbe and Sandy Kauffman. In their words: "Bill treats everyone he encounters with a great deal of respect. This respect for others makes him highly approachable. As a new assistant dean and a doctoral candidate he must be extremely busy, but he never makes you feel as though you are being rushed."

Carrie Kutny, enrollment/academic counselor, has worked at the college for almost five years. She was nominated by Ana Valdez in the Lawrence Career Planning and Advising Center who wrote "It is amazing to have an employee like Carrie. She is a role model professional. I have been working at the college for 18 years and I had the opportunity to have Carrie as my direct supervisor in the Financial Aid office before she moved to the Academic Advising Center. Carrie is a hard worker. She has the academic capacity and techniques to resolve any problem. Carrie’s professionalism and respect for others is part of her success in her career as a counselor."

With campuses in Haverhill and Lawrence and extension sites in Andover and Methuen, Northern Essex Community College is a state-assisted college, offering over 70 associate degree and certificate programs as well as hundreds of non credit courses designed for personal enrichment and career growth. Close to 13,000 students ranging from recent high school graduates to workers employed locally attend classes days, evenings, and weekends.
