Submitted by on January 13, 2014 – 3:01 pm

A Basic English as a Second Language (BESL) course will be offered this spring through Northern Essex Community College’s Center for Adult Education Programs and Practitioners at NECC Riverwalk, 360 Merrimack St., in Lawrence.

This high-beginner level course for non-native speakers of English is designed to help students develop their language skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking for effective communication in the workplace, for everyday use within the community, and in preparation for entering Academic ESL at NECC. Students will also develop and begin to use strategies for independent learning.

BESL which costs $235 per person will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m., January 23 through May 15. Class will not be held during NECC’s spring break or on holidays.

For additional information or to register contact Cynthia Faulkner, ESOL Coordinator, Center for Adult Education Programs and Practitioners, at cfaulkner@necc.mass.edu or 978-659-1279.
