Submitted by on April 17, 2018 – 7:49 pm

Baritone Will Prepestis will perform with the Essex Chamber Music Players on Sunday, April 22.

The Essex Chamber Music Players (ECMP) in residence at Northern Essex Community College, will present a concert in celebration of Earth Day on Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m. in the Hartleb Technology Center on NECC’s Haverhill campus, 100 Elliott St, Haverhill.

The concert includes “Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano” by 19th century composer Louise Farrenc (1804-75). The work is a celebratory expression of earthly joy. Karen Kline, former Poet Laureate of North Andover, will contribute poetry to express the music.

Daniel Bennett Thomas has set four poems by Robert Frost to music in his premier work “Close the Window” for baritone voice, flute, cello and piano. The subject of the poems is the four seasons: summer- “Blueberries”, fall- “November”, winter- “Now Close the Windows” and spring- “A Prayer in Spring.”

“We are pleased to have the wonderful baritone singer Will Prepestis performing this highly pleasing work by Thomas,” said Michael Finegold, ECMP artistic director. “The poetry of Robert Frost is part of our project: Local Cultural History through Music.”

The final piece is George Crumb’s “Vox Balænæ” (Voice of the Whale) which is inspired by whale songs and performed by musicians wearing half black masks.

The performers are Prepestis – baritone; Finegold – flute; Sebastian Bäverstam – cello; and Constantine Finehouse – piano.

General admission tickets are $15; NECC students with college ID and kids 8 to 16 years-old are free.

The Hadassah Medical Organization will benefit from donations received at this concert in behalf of Hadassah Associates. Funds raised will be used in Alzheimer’s Research.
