Essex Chamber Music Players Announce  2018-2019 Concert Season

Essex Chamber Music Player Mike Finegold will perform this season.

The Essex Chamber Music Players (ECMP), in residence at Northern Essex Community College (NECC), has announced its 2018/2019 concert season.

Monday, Oct. 15, – Special Concert event, William Thomas McKinley’s 80th Birthday, Memorial/Tribute Concert. McKinley was composer in residence for ECMP composing works premiered by ECMP. He was the pianist with the Essex Jazz Ensemble performing throughout the Merrimack Valley and on the ECMP series. ECMP Artistic Director/flutist and pianist David Pihl will perform selections from McKinley’s Romance #2 “Secret of the Heart” at a lecture-symposium from 2 to 4 p.m. in Brown Hall, the New England Conservatory, 290 Huntington Ave., Boston.

A pre-concert reception and discussion will be held in Brown Hall from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The panel discussion begins at 6:45 p.m. moderated by Michael Gandolfi, featuring Elliott McKinley, Jeffrey Sposato, and Peter Smucker. Concert to follow at 7:30 p.m. in Jordan Hall.

This event is free and open to the public.

Monday, Oct. 15, 8 p.m., Jordan Hall New England Conservatory: memorial/tribute to composer William Thomas McKinley.

Sunday Nov. 18,  2 p.m. NECC’s Hartleb Technology Center, 100 Elliott St., Haverhill:  ECMP concert; Robin L. Øye:  Premiere “Pangs of Memory, Fallen Snow” for flute, cello and piano for flute/alto flute, cello and piano.; Sergei Rachmaninoff: “Ne poj, krasavitsa,” Op. 4, No. 4 (Sing not, fair maiden); Elaine Erickson: “December Celebration” for flute and piano; Brahms: “Piano Trio No. 1” in B major, Op. 8 for Violin, Cello and Piano (38:00); Daniel Kurganov – violin, Michael Finegold – flute, Mickey Katz(of the Boston Symphony) – cello, and Constantine Finehouse – piano.

Sunday, April 14, 2 p.m., NECC: ECMP Concert – Joseph Haydn; London Trio No. 1 in C major. Hob. IV 1 for Flute, Violin and Cello; Bohuslav Martinů: Madrigal “Sonata for Flute, Violin and Piano”; Antonin Dvořák: “Dumky “Piano Trio No.4, Op.90; Daniel Kurganov – violin; Michael Finegold – flute; Ben Swartz – cello; Constantine Finehouse – piano.

Sunday, May 19, 2 p.m., NECC – Finehouse Concert, L. van Beethoven: Sonata in A-flat Major, Op. 110; Isaac Albéniz/William Bolcom: “Navarra”; Robert Schumann: “Noveletten”, Op. 21.

Sunday, June 23, 2 p.m., NECC –  Essex Jazz Ensemble Concert Featuring Compositions of  Finegold and Marc Rossi, including American Jazz Standards; “Way Would,” “Flowers in Autumn,” “Dance Piece,” “Somber is the Night,” “Ascending Dreams,” “Feast or Famine,” “Tribute to Eddie and McCoy,” Michael Finegold – flute,  Marc Rossi – piano, Bruce Gertz – bass, Austin McMahon – drums,  and artistic director Michael Finegold.

General admission tickets are $15; NECC students with college ID and kids 8-16 years-old are free.
