Program Overview

Paramedics respond to medical emergencies car accidents, heart attacks, drownings and more and provide immediate medical treatment and transport to a hospital or other medical facility. To be successful as a paramedic, you must be able to make split second decisions, work irregular hours (many paramedics work 24 hour shifts), be emotionally stable, and be in good physical condition.
At NECC, the Associate Degree in Science in Paramedic (EMT-P) Technology will prepare you for a career in emergency medical service. The program is presented through a series of lecture, lab, hospital clinical and field internship experiences.Graduates are eligible to take the State of Massachusetts Paramedic licensing exam as well as the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians examination. Students will work under both Standing Medical Control orders and online Medical Control.
The paramedic program meets the requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and national guidelines for paramedic education. Students must first complete an approved EMT-Basic course and work for one year as an EMT.
Graduates will be able to pursue many career paths, and could work for ambulance companies, fire departments, or emergency rooms. The job outlook is excellent and is expected to continue to grow.
