Program Overview

Information security is a fast-growing field. The need to keep information secure and prevent hacking is critical for all types of companies and organizations. If you have previous IT college-level experience or equivalent IT work experience and want to upgrade your computer skills in security, this one-year certificate is for you.

The Computer Security Certificate provides instruction on general security concepts, communication security, infrastructure security, cryptography, and operational/organizational security. Students who complete the program will learn about and understand the various processes involved in securing and protecting a network and assessing organizational risks.

Career Opportunities

The Computer Security Certificate program is intended for those who already have an educational or related work background in IT and are looking to sharpen their skills. Graduates often go on to pursue additional degrees and work as IT technicians, network technician, and more. Most jobs in information security require a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field.

Ready to get started? It’s easy! Northern Essex has an open admission policy, which means that if you have a high school diploma, GED/HiSet, or other state-approved equivalency credential, you are eligible to enroll at NECC. Just fill out an application, attend an orientation/assessment session, and then register for classes.
