Interior Decoration Certificate Program

This program is for you if you’re interested in entering the decorating field or just want more knowledge of interior decoration principles. Take only those courses that interest you or complete five courses (the Fundamentals of Interior Decoration plus 4 courses) to earn the certificate. This program also prepares you to become a Certified Professional Decorator through the Decorator’s Alliance of North America.

The Fundamentals of Interior Decoration

This hands-on course provides a broad overview of the fundamental process, tools, concepts, principles and language of interior decoration, including color theory and psychology, furniture styles and placement. It also provides the underpinning for all other courses in the program and is a requirement for the certificate of completion.

The Business of Interior Decoration

Learn critical business skills needed by interior decorators, including calculating costs and budgets, determining and negotiating fees, creating proposals and contracts, managing your projects, setting up your workspace and office plus targeting and marketing to a specific client base.

Learn to use existing furniture, basic staging & interior decor principles to stage a home for sale.  You’ll also explore pricing, business practices, marketing ideas and more in this practical information-packed course.

Intro to DreamDraper

DreamDraper software helps you easily create professional, true-to-life drawings that provide you and your clients with fabulous visuals! You’ll learn and use its basic functions and explore its window treatment, floor planning, and accessorizing design capabilities. Requires computer literacy.  Materials fee includes DreamDraper software for personal use plus for upcoming courses in the series.  Early registration is strongly recommended to assure you have the software for the 1st class.

DreamDraper II  NEW!

Hone the skills you learned during Introduction to DreamDraper plus learn to draw a floor plan to scale, and bring it to life with color, textures and fabrics, then create elevations from the floor plan.  You’ll also learn  how to utilize DreamDraper to interact with your clients and workrooms by creating estimates/invoices/workroom specifications and more.  Must have completed Introduction to DreamDraper and/or have experience with this application.

Accessorizing a room completes the room’s design and takes it from ordinary to WOW!  But just how do you add the right finishing touches to add pizzazz and reflect the client’s personality?  Learn about size, scale, types, selection and placement of accessory items such as rugs, wall and shelf art, lighting, plants, linens, and more.

Color Flair for the Home

This lively, interactive, practical class will help you use color to create beautiful rooms.  You’ll learn to use unique tools and techniques to solve your color dilemmas, understand the secrets of neutrals, undertones and  more.  You’ll also explore how to choose the “right” color for you spaces, break down the color wheel, explode the myth of color theory and walk away with a real flair for color.

Intro to SketchUp for Interior Decorators and Designers

SketchUp is a simple yet amazingly powerful software tool for creating, viewing, and modifying 3D ideas quickly and easily, combining the spontaneity of pencil sketching with the speed and flexibility of today’s digital media.  You’ll create photorealistic views of interior or exterior spaces, combined with styles, shadows and 3D walk-through animations.  Bring thumb drive to save projects worked on in class.  Software can be downloaded for free at home.
