What is a Learning Community?

  • A group of students who are enrolled in the same courses with the same instructors.
  • Two classes, taught by two instructors, linked or integrated that focus around a particular theme, often with common readings and activities.

What are the benefits of a Learning Community?

  • Students form partnerships and teams, and make connections between subjects
  • Students and faculty work together in a supportive environment
  • Students and faculty work together to create a sense of community
  • Students are encouraged to learn and to reflect on their learning

At NECC, you have the opportunity to take two or more courses together, get credit for both, learn and study with the same group of students.

In Learning Communities, two or more faculty members have planned the courses together, teach the courses together and have created an exciting theme-based curriculum that will help you towards your academic goals.
