How to Register OnlineAcademic Planning
- It’s important to take the time to create an Academic Plan either on your own or with an Advisor. Take a look at some helpful hints for how to prepare for Advising. Advising Tips
- A part of Planning for Courses is to look at your Degree Works Audit
- Click on Degree Works which is under Student Frequently Used Tools at the bottom right of the portal
- Degree Works will show you a lot of great information.
- A couple important areas include:
1. You can see who your Advisor is2. You can view your hold so you know if you are eligible to register3. Your degree audit that shows you which classes you need to graduate from your program.
- Keep this screen up so you can reference it during registration.
- Click on Degree Works which is under Student Frequently Used Tools at the bottom right of the portal
- Next, review your Academic Pathway.a. Go back to your myNECC portal tab that you are logged into.
b. Click on the Academic Catalog which is under Student Frequently Used Tools at the bottom right of the portal.
c. The Academic Catalog is a very important tool that includes program and major information, policies, academic calendar, and much more.

- To find your Academic Pathway:1. On the left side of the screen Click on Academic Programs
2. Find your program and click to show all of the majors.
3. Click on your major
4. This will show you all of the requirements for your program
5. Scroll down until you see Recommended Course Sequence/Pathway
6. This shows you what classes you are supposed to take in what order.
- Keep this screen up so you can reference it during registration
- To find your Academic Pathway:1. On the left side of the screen Click on Academic Programs

- Using both your Degree Works Audit and Academic Pathway together will help you determine what classes you should complete this semester.
- Finally, Navigate can help you to document your Academic Plan and share with your Advisor:
- Using a computer go back to your myNECC portal tab that you are logged into
- Click on the Student Navigate link on the left hand side of the portal
- Click on “Planner” in Navigate (To do this, you need to be logged in on a computer or tablet, not in the app)

- Add the Spring 2021 terms to your plan on the right side of the screen

- If you are a new student at NECC and declared your major in Fall 2019 or later, you should see a list of suggested courses on the left of your planner, with a blank space on the right. Add some terms on the right of the page, and then you can click to drag courses from the suggested list to the terms.
- If you declared your major before Fall 2019, you will need to get your list of courses needed to finish your major from an advisor, from your DegreeWorks plan, or from your program website. Then, you can use the Search feature to add courses to terms just like a new student.
Registration

- Now it is time to register
a. Go back to your myNECC portal tab that you are logged into.
b. Scroll down and you will find an orange button that says search and register, click the button.
c. This will take you into self-service where you will now click on the Register for Classes button near the top right.

- Next, you will select your term and hit continue.
- You will then be brought to a screen where you will search for classes
- Don’t forget that you will be picking your classes based on your Degree Works Audit, Academic Pathway and Conversation with your Advisor.
1.You can always go back to the open tabs for your degree works and pathway to see them again.
- You will now enter the subject you are looking for, and the course number if you have it: ex: ENG 101.
- If you make the screen larger, you will see an advanced search that allows you to narrow down your choices.
- Pay special attention to the course information name, credit hours, and the box that tells you the day, time, place and date of the class.
- For instance, what date the class starts on is important as there are 4 and 8 week classes are also listed with the full semester classes
- Once you have the class you want click ADD
- At the bottom left of the screen you can view your classes in a schedule format, by making the box larger you can see more of the schedule.
- At the bottom right you will see a summary of the classes you have selected. You can also make this box larger to see more options
- At the top right you can click search again to find more courses.
- This will also show you if there is a time conflict.
- Once you have all of the courses you need, you will click submit at the bottom right.
- If there is an error with your registration it will show up in your summary (such as not having the proper pre-requisite course).
- To drop a class that you have registered for, go to the summary box at the bottom right of the screen and click the drop down under the Action tab and click web drop and then submit at the bottom right of the screen.

3. Finally, confirm that the courses you picked are what you need for your degree by checking Degree Works!
