Program Snapshot
A degree in liberal arts will give you a solid foundation in critical thinking, critical reading, research, and communications. An associate of arts degree can be a springboard into the working world, or a meaningful milestone on your journey toward a college degree. You can complete your first two years at Northern Essex and then transfer to a four-year school.
Offers maximum flexibility for:
- Completing general education requirements to Transfer to a 4-year college
- Students who are exploring of their major
Courses are available days, nights, and online.

All students must satisfy the five course skills to graduate: IL, GA, PP, QR, and SCI.
If you are using this degree to eventually transfer to a 4-year college or university, the sooner you decide on what schools you might transfer to, the easier it will be to choose electives that transfer. Discuss this with your adviser.
If you are not taking 5 classes per semester, plan to take the courses listed as Spring or Fall in the semester they are offered.

Milestone courses are the most important for success in the program, should be taken in the sequence shown, and may require certain grades or other outcomes for your continued progress toward graduation. They may also cover most, or all the six core skills required for graduation.
