Dimitry Renovation Weekly Updates

Each week, members of the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM), Perry Dean Rogers Partners Architects, and G&R Construction meet with NECC staff to review project timelines, provide updates, and finalize plans. Please see the most recent updates below:

Weekly Update: May 20, 2019

The entrance/exit to the Dimitry parking lot (Lot A) has been modified as a result of the renovation project. The entrance is now located on Common Street, and has been enlarged to make it easier for vehicles to turn left and enter. The exit is located towards the front of the building, and cars exit left onto Franklin Street. Parking remains available for those with a valid NECC parking decal in Lot A. Weekly Update: May 13, 2019

The stadium seating in the Dimitry lobby has been removed, and new furniture will be ordered. The furniture will provide ample seating for the food service area and create a lounge area for students, faculty/staff and visitors. The tables will be a mix between standard dining tables, high top tables and soft seating.

Weekly Update: May 6, 2019

Faculty and staff are being notified to box up and label items for the move out of LRW and back into Dimitry. All items should be boxed and labeled prior to the end of the current spring semester. This will ensure that all items that need to be moved will be properly accounted for. If boxes are needed, please contact the Facilities Department at x3922.

Weekly Update: April 29, 2019

Flooring and ceiling contract work is taking place on the interior of the Dimitry building beginning this week. The work is estimated to take 4-6 weeks, and the flooring and ceiling improvements will create a cohesive look in the building, and improve floor and ceiling quality.

Weekly Update: April 22, 2019

New photos of the Dimitry Building have been uploaded under the “View Construction Progress” page. These photos highlight the exterior improvements such as the new siding, steps and seating area for students, staff and visitors. Contractors will be returning in the coming weeks to plant new shrubs and trees.

The new siding on the Dimitry building, matches the existing siding of the Dr. Ibrahim El-Hefni Allied Health & Technology Center, helping to create a cohesive look throughout the Lawrence campus. The renovations to the Dimitry building includes other improvements such as new windows, parking lot improvements, and new and beautifully landscaped outdoor spaces. Students, staff and visitors are sure to enjoy the upgrades spaces!

Weekly Update: March 25, 2019

Weekly meetings have resumed, and on-site construction will resume Monday, April 29th. The construction will include interior and exterior punch list items, landscaping and planting, stone bench installation and parking lot improvements.

Weekly  Update: March 18, 2019

NECC Administrators continue to meet to discuss the move-in plans for the Dimitry Building. Weekly meetings with DCAMM, Perry Dean Rogers Partners Architects, G&R Construction and NECC facilities staff will resume next week, March 25th.

Weekly Update: January 7, 2019

Weekly meetings have concluded for the winter months, and will resume in the early spring, at which time landscape work as well as parking lot sealing & re-lining will take place.

G&R Construction has removed temporary construction fences and there is additional parking available in Lot A during the upcoming winter months. Weekly Update: December 10, 2018

G&R Construction will be wrapping up construction for the upcoming winter months and will return in the early spring for final finishes. In the spring, new plants and bushes will be planted, as well as updates to the Lot A parking lot. Temporary construction fences will soon be taken down, and there will be additional parking available in Lot A during this time period. Weekly Update: December 3, 2018

Exterior construction will begin to wrap-up for the winter months, and will resume in early spring. Parking will remain available for students, faculty and staff with a valid NECC parking placard in Lot A throughout the winter months. Weekly Update: November 26, 2018

Exterior construction at the Dimitry building will be wrapping up for the fall semester, and G&R Construction work crews will return in the early spring to complete the project. The spring construction will include the planting of new trees and shrubs in the newly renovated courtyard, as well as various parking lot improvements.

Weekly Update: November 19, 2018

All new windows on the first and second level of the Dimitry building have been installed and are completed. The stone veneer on the exterior of the building is in the final stages of completion, and remains on schedule. The anticipated end of construction date is March 2019. Parking remains available for students, faculty and staff with a valid NECC parking placard in Lot A throughout the remainder of the Fall 2018 semester. Certain areas of the lot may be blocked off by temporary construction fences, but all other areas remain open to NECC persons. Weekly Update: November 5, 2018

A new seating area has been poured for the front quad, as well as new stairs leading to the front entrance of the building. The new stairs will allow for easier, and more accessible entry into the building and the improved seating area will provide space for students, faculty and visitors to enjoy the campus. Weekly Update: October 22, 2018

G&R Construction will be relocating the temporary fence line in the Dimitry parking lot back to the initial parking configuration (entrance on Franklin Street) this Monday (10/22/18) morning.  There will not be parking available in the Dimitry lot during this relocation. Parking will be available in the Dimitry Lot A, around 10:00am on Monday (10/22/18) morning once the fence has been relocated.

Weekly Update: October 15, 2018

For approximately the next two weeks, G&R Construction, is conducting parking lot repair located on the south side of the Dimitry parking lot A.  During this time, parking spaces will be more limited than usual. In order to accommodate this decrease in parking spaces during the repair operations, Public Safety will be validating Buckley Garage parking tickets anytime the lots are full.  This will only be until parking lot repair is complete, which again, will take approximately 2 weeks.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call Public Safety at 978-556-3333 or email Parking@necc.mass.edu.

NECC facilities staff continues to closely monitor the renovations and work in conjunction with Perry Dean Rogers Partners Architects and G&R Construction to remain on schedule. Renovation staff have met with the City of Lawrence to discuss sidewalk and crosswalk improvements throughout the Lawrence campus.

The courtyard area in front of the building has been excavated.   Once completed, the courtyard will feature beautifully landscaped outdoor spaces for Students, Faculty, and the community to enjoy.  Contractors are continuing to move ahead with the rest of the renovations.

Weekly Update: April 23, 2018

NECC facilities staff will hang additional signage regarding parking and entrance/exits to assist with the flow of traffic in and out of Lot A. These signs will also help direct street traffic to the new entrance/exit located on Common Street. Additionally, a sign will be hung on the temporary construction fence reminding students, staff, and visitors that all NECC-related business should be directed to 414 Common Street.

G&R Construction continues to make progress in the demolition of the Dimitry building and the removal of the existing front entranceway. Construction and project signs will be hung on the temporary fencing this week.  Parking remains available for students, faculty, and staff with a valid NECC parking decal in Lot A. Demolition has officially begun! The quad area in front of the Dimitry entrance has been dug up, and the existing concrete has been removed.  The area inside the construction fence is a hard hat area; therefore, the use of hard-hats will be strictly enforced. Weekly Update: March 26, 2018

The area inside the construction fence is now a hard hat area, and is regulated by OSHA’s “head protection” mandates, which require a hard hat to be worn by anyone who enters.  No NECC persons are permitted to enter the hard-hat area.

Any and all college-related business such as admissions, campus tours, inquiries about classes, payments, etc., will be directed to 414 Common St.

The entrance/exit to the Dimitry parking lot has been enlarged to make it easier for vehicles to enter and exit.  Parking is available for those with a valid NECC parking decal in Lot A.  Please be aware and use caution when entering and exiting Lot A.

Please note: Parking within the temporary construction fence are is prohibited. Any person(s) parking within the temporary construction fence area are liable to be towed at the owner’s expense.

Weekly Update: March 19, 2018

G&R Construction has put up a fence along the building, as well as around a small area inside Parking Lot A.  The Common St. entrance to the Dimitry parking lot will serve as the entrance and exit for this parking lot.

Currently, the opening is wide enough for only one vehicle to access at a time.  G&R Construction will soon be removing two sections of the fence in order to allow easier access; however, the curb cut for this opening is large enough to accommodate only one vehicle at a time.  This entrance/exit will be re-worked as part of the Dimitry project, but it is not scheduled until later in the construction project.

Weekly Update: March 12, 2018

G&R Construction will be putting up fences around the building beginning March 14, 2018. NECC staff, faculty, and students will no longer have access to the inside of the Dimitry Building. Also, beginning Wednesday, March 14, the entrance and exit to Dimitry Lot A will be shifted to Common St. There will be no available access via Franklin St.
