President’s Message

Welcome to Northern Essex Community College!

I’m very proud Northern Essex Community College has such a powerful impact on the community around us, helping individual students to achieve their dreams and providing valuable resources for local businesses and community organizations.

Because our focus is local, we’re here for you, delivering the courses and programs that will lead to good careers as well as an affordable path to a bachelor’s degree. Northern Essex offers about 60 certificate and associate degree programs on our Haverhill and Lawrence Campuses and online. Some of our most popular programs are in health care, liberal arts, criminal justice, business, computer science, engineering, and early childhood education, and, in response to the job market, we’ve recently introduced programs in clinical research, public health, and advanced manufacturing.

At Northern Essex, we go beyond traditional higher education as well, developing programs and courses, both credit and noncredit, in partnership with area employers. These programs are designed to address employer needs, giving local residents the skills they need to advance in their careers and providing employers with the competitive advantage of a well-trained workforce. Last year 2600 individuals took noncredit courses with us, ranging from workplace ESL to supervisory skills, on their own or through their employers. Our faculty are willing to travel and some companies—Raytheon, for example—offer credit programs to their employees at their workplace.
