Start Here, at Northern Essex!

President Lane GlennAs a community college, Northern Essex is focused on helping improve the lives of those within the Greater Merrimack Valley region of Massachusetts.

Since our founding in 1961, the college motto Tamen Plus Lux/ Still More Light continues to guide us as we help individual students achieve their dreams, providing education and opportunity for them, their families, and our community.

We honor our status as New England’s first-ever Hispanic Serving Institution for the growth of our diverse community. We are here to prepare our students for their careers through a lens of equity and togetherness, giving them skills toward meaningful work.

With over 70% of our student population taking classes part-time, we focus on access by offering classes in-person, online, in hybrid formats, and in flexible 4-, 7-, and 14-week terms across our Lawrence and Haverhill campuses.

Our certificate and degree programs are tailored to meet the job preparedness needs of the ever-changing marketplace. In fact, over 95% of our recent graduates* found work in their field of study or transferred to a 4-year college or university.

Through a range of credit and flex credit programming, we partner with area employers and community organizations to identify the skills our students most need to succeed.  As importantly, we are a resource for you, the cities and towns in our region, local employers, and beyond.
