Presenter: Susan Fleming, PhD, Asst. Professor in Nursing, North Idaho College (speaker through Exceptional Nurses)
Susan will share her experience as a nurse working with a disability as well as working as a faculty member and consultant.
Susan Fleming was born without her left hand, yet she has been a Registered nurse since 1982 and a nursing Instructor for over 18 years. She has cared for people in hospitals in many parts of the U.S. and Germany as she traveled with her husband in the Army. She has worked in a variety of settings as a nurse in Labor and Delivery, ER, ICU and Home Health. Susan has International-National experience working as an advisor, consultant and motivational speaker for Deans and Health Care Instructors and Students with disabilities. Susan’s work includes being the Keynote Speaker at a Disability Conference at the University College of Dublin in Ireland where the President of Ireland (President Mary McAleese) attended. She worked as a consultant for Dean Pace of NYU, as he navigated working with nursing students with disabilities. She has presented at disability conferences in Innsbruck Austria, Vancouver Canada, and several times in California.
