Social Media, Disinformation, and Democracy

February 24, 2021, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm

Civic Reflection Series

Liberal Arts Dean, Amy Callahan will present a talk and lead a discussion on the role of social media in spreading disinformation and undermining democracy in the United States and elsewhere. Following many years of optimism that global access to social media would lead to a strengthening of democracy and social bonds, many platforms have been hijacked by campaigns of disinformation that serve to undermine democracy. How has this happened and can this trend be reversed. Join Dean Callahan as she presents some of her ongoing research on the topic.
