También la lluvia (Even the Rain)

October 5, 2021, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Starting Tuesday October 5 and running for four weeks we will highlight prominent movies that challenge important social justice issues as they affect the world and the Hispanic community in particular.

También la lluvia (Even the Rain)

As a director and his crew shoot a controversial film about Christopher Columbus in Cochabamba, Bolivia, local people rise up against plans to privatize the water supply. In a somewhat ironic twist, the movie makers faced the criticism that they exploited the local people who were serving as extras. The movie was shot during a period of political instability when making a movie about the recent political history was a very dangerous prospect, and the producers faced threats to abandon the shoot.
