Meet Artist Antonio Broccoli Porto
Born in New York City, of Italian and Puerto Rican parents, Antonio Broccoli Porto from a young age had an interest in arts. His parents and teachers noticed and appreciated his artistic talents. He enrolled in Iona College, New Rochelle, New York, where he pursued fine art studies and earned a B.A. degree in Arts. In the 1980s, he traveled to Italy and continued his artistic studies at the “Accademia di Belle Arti Brera” (Brera Academy of Fine Arts) in Milan.
In the 1990’s Antonio Broccoli Porto studied Latin Percussion under the tutelage of Cuban National Artist Maestro Luis Andino, who taught at Harbor Conservatory in El Barrio of NYC. Porto was so enamored by music that he wanted to completely immerse himself in this aspect of art. Music influenced him to learn as much as he could about the many cultures of the Caribbean, North, Central & South American. With each rhythm studied, the more aware and immersed he became in that aspect of the Latino culture. This lecture will discuss how his love of Hispanic music and dance were the biggest influences and inspiration for many of his paintings.
