Interpreters are needed in just about all areas of life, including doctor’s offices, schools, places of employment, courts, and in numerous other settings.

Northern Essex Community College is the only community college in the region to offer American Sign Language (ASL)/English Interpreting. The program is designed to prepare you to transfer to a four-year college or university to earn your bachelor’s degree in Interpreting or a related degree – saving you thousands of dollars along the way. With this program you can:
- Learn about the language , culture, and community of Deaf/Hard of Hearing/DeafBlind people
- Gain real-world experience through an internship in your first semester working directly with members of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing/DeafBlind community

- Earn guaranteed acceptance into Framingham State University’s Bachelor of Arts Completion Degree in ASL/English Interpreting

Upon successful completion of the Interpreting Transfer Option, you can:
- Take advantage of a transfer agreement to earn your bachelor’s degree in a Deaf Studies-related field, while saving thousands of dollars on the cost of your degree
- Prepare to take the state-level Massachusetts Interpreter Screening through the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (MCDHH). MCDHH-screened interpreters are eligible for entry-level interpreting work.
