Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide Training Program
This DPH approved 125 hour program introduces you to the fundamental nursing assistant skills and information and prepares them to take the state (MA) examination to become a CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant/Certified Nurse Aide) to be listed in the Nurse Aide Registry and also become a Home Health Aide. Emphasis is placed upon communication, safety and infection control procedures and basic personal care skills for patients/residents in sub-acute, long term care and in an individual’s home. Other topics include vital signs, documentation and the legal and regulatory practices. This full-time daytime program is held at the Haverhill Campus, Monday-Friday from 8:30a.m. – 2:30p.m. for five weeks and includes classroom instruction, skills practice and clinical experience at a local long-term care facility under the supervision of a registered nurse. This is a great option to enter the in-demand direct care field and can also serve as a gateway to other health care professions. Program fee is $1,500 (includes MA State American Red Cross testing). Additional fees for CORI/SORI testing, textbook and uniform not included in program fee. The required textbook, Hartman’s Nursing Assistant Care: Long-Term Care and Home Care, 3rd edition, ISBN# 978-1-60425-070-1, is available at the NECC Haverhill Campus bookstore or your preferred book vendor. *Students who successfully complete this program and pass the Massachusetts CNA exam may also earn 6 credits as the equivalent of HES 112 applicable towards the NECC Health Care Technician Certificate Program.

ServSafe Certification – Food
Safe food handling is critical to keeping customers and co-workers safe. Offered in association with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, ServSafe is a comprehensive eight-hour course that provides an overview of basic sanitation policies and procedures and prepares you to pass the ServSafe Certification exam given during the last class. Students who pass the exam will be awarded the ServSafe Certification by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.

Health Care Provider CPR
Intended for the healthcare provider who cares for patients in a variety of settings, this course teaches CPR for victims of all ages. Topics include ventilation with a barrier device, bag-mask device, oxygen, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). Includes the adult signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, and choking. Students are encouraged to register early, obtain their books from our office one week prior to class start, and become familiar with the contents prior to the start of class.

Medical Interpreting Certificate Program
There is a critical need for trained medical interpreters! This 60-hour program provides working knowledge of medical interpreting, including standards of practice, ethnics, HIPAA regulations, cultural competency, and medical terminology/vocabulary. Open to all languages, students must be bilingual and must be fluent in English and one other language. Course is designed for those preparing for entry level careers as medical interpreters as well as for working interpreters preparing for the National Board Certificate exam. This program meets the National Board for Medical Interpreter Certification training requirement and prepares you to pass the certification exam. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of completion from the college. Please register early as a brief assessment is required and conducted by phone. This program is offered in collaboration with TransFluenciEDU, a leader in the medical interpreter training field and is taught by an experienced medical interpreter. Fee includes binder and all course materials. Not eligible for tuition waivers. Online Medical Interpreting Certificate Program – New

Open to those who are fully bi-lingual in English and either Spanish or Portuguese, this online course is designed for those preparing for entry-level careers as medical interpreters as well as for working interpreters preparing for the National Board Certificate exam. This program is taught by an experienced medical interpreter, offered in collaboration with TransFluenci EDU, a leader in the medical interpreter training field and meets the National Board for Medical Interpreter Certification training requirement. A brief language assessment is required and conducted by phone prior to the start of the course. The course start date is flexible so register and start whenever it is convenient for you! Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a certificate of completion from the college.

Advanced Directives and Living Wills: Who Will Speak for You?
In the event of illness or disability, is there someone you trust who can speak for you and communicate how you wish to be cared for if you are unable to do so? Learn the different types of Advanced Directives including Massachusetts Health Care Proxy and the “Five Wishes”. Class held at Merrimack Valley Hospice’s main office at the Riverwalk (360 Merrimack Street, Building 9, Entrance I, 4th floor) in Lawrence. Registration for this course is mandatory.
End of Life Care: Become a Hospice Volunteer – Merrimack Valley Hospice
Learn to make a profound difference in someone’s life! Using lecture, real life stories and small group exercises you will learn how to provide practical help and emotional support to those with life limiting illness and their loved ones. At the end of this in-depth comprehensive 5 week training, you will receive a certificate and become part of a very special group – ordinary people making an extraordinary difference! There is a special need for veterans to support other veterans, bilingual (Spanish) volunteers and licensed massage therapists.
Class includes 5 live classes and online study. Students should plan to spend about two hours (weekly) on homework including online study.

Latin Social Dancing – New
Learn how to dance Salsa, Bachata and Merengue. We will learn to find the beat in the music and practice beginner footwork (right and left turns as well as the cross body lead). We will also learn how to dance with a partner (lead and follow). This is a great way to learn something new, make new friends and stay physically active. Bring comfortable shoes.
