Good Morning, Northern Essex Community College Students—
I know that the past month has been challenging for you and your families, and for our entire college community, in many ways. In addition to disrupting lives through illness, anxiousness, and being apart from one another, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted livelihoods, creating tremendous financial stress for many.
Earlier today, we held a “Town Hall” meeting for students in which I thanked you, along with the college’s tremendous faculty and staff, for the incredible strength you have shown. The transition from our traditional face-to-face learning environment to remote learning has proven yet again that our students are resilient in spite of the challenges they may face.
Like many other colleges in our nation, NECC has received funding through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, to assist students with covering expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus. The CARES Act funds can be used to help with expenses associated with transitioning to remote learning and the cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and childcare.
In the coming days you will receive notification from our Student Affairs team with additional information about this funding.

I have spent my life and career in education at community colleges, first as a student, then a professor, and now as a president. I have seen many challenges over the years, but none compare to this one. And I have seen many amazing responses to those challenges, but none like the support that the students, faculty and staff of NECC have shown to one another during our greatest time of need.
