Student Leadership Development Program
The Student Leadership Development Program was created to assist students in developing leadership and career related skills. The overall aim of the Student Leadership Development Program is to help students strengthen and enhance “transferable skills,” skills which will help academic success, civic responsibility, and the opportunity for achieving career goals. The program is divided into two phases: Emerging Leaders & Presidential Student Ambassadors.
New sessions begin each semester. For more information or to sign up for the orientation, please contact the Student Engagement Center.
Phase I: Emerging Leaders
Time Commitment: 20-25 hours, can be completed over multiple semesters.
Eligibility: All NECC students are eligible.
Requirements: Participants must attend 3 workshops, and participate in 15 hours of community service accompanied by a reflection process.
Advantages: Students will receive a certificate of completion at the Awards Convocation and a transcript notation. The program makes a great addition to any resume or transfer application and provides individuals with the advantages necessary to “stand out from the crowd” in the competitive job market.
Phase I consists of a series of workshops and service learning designed to introduce students to the concepts of leadership and how to implement them successfully. The schedule offers workshops on both the Haverhill and Lawrence Campuses at various times to meet the needs of our students, including one Saturday a semester and evenings.
If you are interested in learning more or participating in this program please contact the Student Engagement Center.

The Presidential Student Ambassador Program is the second phase in the Student Leadership Development Program. This program is designed to provide practical and meaningful leadership opportunities to further develop confidence and skills obtained in phase one. Specifically the program will focus on Adaptability, Diversity, Collaboration, Contribution and Community Service. There will be opportunities to enhance Communication & Speaking in Public through Networking & Professional Development opportunities. Presidential Ambassadors serve as envoys of the college assisting in major events and ceremonies and participating in community outreach and service.
