More than 125 Lawrence High School students visited NECC during a "College for a Day" experience.

More than 125 Lawrence High School juniors and seniors visited NECC to experience a “College for a Day”.

More than 125 Lawrence High School juniors and seniors recently attended “College for a Day” at Northern Essex Community College’s Lawrence campus.

The LHS juniors and seniors had the opportunity to experience college life, however briefly, when they participated in “College for a Day” and visited and toured the Dimitry and iHealth buildings on Franklin Street, and the Dr. Ibrahim El-Hefni Allied Health & Technology Building on Common Street.

“This gave the students the opportunity to see what a college campus looks like and they were able to get a general idea of what a college class is like,” said Adam Cutler, NECC admissions and academic counselor.

The students were bussed to the Lawrence campus; from there, they were organized into 10 groups of 12 to 15 students. Each group was led by a NECC faculty or staff member who escorted them to various 30-minute workshops throughout the day. The workshops included math, radiology, computers, criminal justice, math, business, engineering, lab science, medical assistant, medical lab technology, paramedic technology, and lab science. They also attended workshops on admissions/advising, financial aid, student engagement, and student success.
