The Dean of Students Office is part of the Division of Student Affairs.  In addition to working directly with students, the Dean of Students has direct oversight of the Office of Community Standards, Counseling and Psychological Services, Compliance, Center for Accessibility Resources and Services (CARS), Care and Concern Team, International Student Support, Veterans Services, Food Support on campus, and Student Life.

The Office of Student Life is here to support the lives of our students outside the classroom.

We aim to support and empower our students to take action in their education by engaging themselves in and outside of the classroom. In partnership with students, faculty, and staff we are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming community that encourages all to join. We aim to facilitate student learning and development through our programs and services to transform and deepen the lives of all students as they work toward reaching their personal goals.

We oversee all of the student clubs, organizations, and interest groups, we advise the Student Government Association, we provide leadership opportunities for students, we host student events, and much more! You can always come to Student Life if you need help with anything or have a question about something and not quite sure who to ask.

How to search for Work Study Jobs in Handshake (1)

If you’ve applied and been approved for financial aid, you may be eligible for a federal work-study position.

These positions pay $15.00 per hour and allow students to work up to 10-15 hours per week with a schedule tailored to fit around their coursework.

In addition to financial compensation, students gain valuable work experience and can develop their skills in a number of fields. If you are not sure if you are eligible for a work-study position please email financialaid@necc.mass.edu to ensure you are eligible to hold a work-study position before filling out an application with our office on Handshake.

Office of Community Standards

The Office of Community Standards is responsible for the adjudication of potential violations of the Student Code of Conduct. The Office of Community Standards is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive educational community standards program. This includes training students, faculty and staff members on community expectations and standards as well as the student disciplinary process.

 

Hazing Policy Statement:

Hazing, defined below, is prohibited by Massachusetts law M.G.L. ch. 269, §§17 to 19. Institutions of higher education must provide a copy of the Massachusetts hazing law on an annual basis to every student, student group, student team, and student organization.

Hazing is a violation of the Northern Essex Community College Student Code of Conduct.

Northern Essex Community College investigates allegations of hazing according to the processes described in the Student Code of Conduct.  “Hazing” means any conduct or method of initiation into any student organization, whether on public or private property, which willfully or recklessly endangers the physical or mental health of any student or other person. Such conduct shall include whipping, beating, branding, forced calisthenics, exposure to the weather, forced consumption of any food, liquor, beverage, drug or other substance, or any other brutal treatment or forced physical activity which is likely to adversely affect the physical health or safety of any such student or other person, or which subjects such student or other person to extreme mental stress, including extended deprivation of sleep or rest or extended isolation.

How to report a Hazing Incident

Any person may report alleged hazing by completing the Student Conduct Referral Form or as otherwise indicated in the Student Code of Conduct.  All reported incidents of alleged hazing will be investigated and adjudicated through the Student Code of Conduct process.

The Student Activities Fee provides NECC students the opportunity to interact and participate in various campus projects, programs, and services that are intended to enhance learning, create a sense of community, and enrich the overall College experience. Extracurricular/co-curricular activities and student services that provide a direct benefit to the student body in general are deemed appropriate for funding from the Student Activity Fees.

Beyond budget allocations, a portion of the Student Activities Fees has been set aside for funding requests of all College departments, including clubs and organizations. Funds can only be used for the approved event or initiative. Only requests that provide a direct benefit to the student body will be considered.

Bulletin Boards
Bulletin boards are available in all buildings on the Haverhill and Lawrence campuses to hang flyers and announcements for our NECC community. 

You may ONLY post on the boards with the title NECC NEWS (campus entities) or COMMUNITY NEWS (general public).

  • All flyers must be approved by the Dean of Students Office.
  • Please ensure all flyers have contact information displayed.
  • Please ensure all flyers have the following statement at the bottom, “We welcome requests for ASL sign language interpreting & other ADA access requests.  Please contact the host of this event: your name  phone: your phone number email: your email address  for requests, questions for event information.”
  • All postings should be hung with 4 tacks, one in each corner, and should not overlap any other postings. Please provide your own tacks and do not use ones from other postings already on the board.
  • Table Tops, Windows, doors, walls, and glass are not permitted for posting. Materials posted will be removed.
  • You are responsible for hanging your own announcements and flyers. You must remove postings within 24 hours of their expiration.
  • All flyers and informational postings will be removed at the end of each semester.

Student Life events and programs will continue to be hosted virtually and in person. Student Life events and programs along with student Club, Organization, and Interest Group meetings and event details can be found on the Student Activities Calendar. All student Club, organizations, and Interest Group MUST fill out the Event & Fundraiser Proposal Form and receive an email with approval from Student Life for any in-person or virtual events or fundraisers.

On behalf of the 2022 graduating class, Student Government Association outfitted a Sensory Space available to students in the Knights Nook, cube 3.
