Create Positive Change on Campus

As a member of the Student Government Association, your voice, actions, and decisions can have an immediate and long-term impact on the NECC student body. You’ll help identify and address student concerns while creating an inclusive environment and promoting better communication and collaboration among students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, you have use of an office for SGA business on the Haverhill campus in the Student Center, room 216 and on the Lawrence Campus  in the Dimitry Building, room 133. As a student involved in SGA you can attend regional conferences and summits and this will make a powerful addition to your resume.

What Does the Student Government Association do?

  • The Student Government meets Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the Behrakis the Student Center room SC-106 on the Haverhill campus, and in the Dimitry (L) Building room  L-143 in Lawrence. Students can attend at either campus. A teleconference will be set up for this purpose.
  • Listen to, raise and discuss student concerns and relay to the appropriate senior administrators as necessary.
  • The Student Government Association recommends a spending plan for the Student Activities Fund (SAF) to NECC’s president and has oversight of the student clubs and organizations.
  • Oversee fundraising activities to support three scholarships.
  • Meetings are open to the public and all NECC students are encourage to attend.
  • Assists The Office of Student Life with overseeing the student lounge on our Lawrence Campus located in the basement of the Dimitry Building.

How Can You Run for Student Government?

To become an active and voting member all you need to do is print off the PDF below  or pick up a petition from the Student Government office SC-216 or L-133, and get signatures from 50 NECC students who will endorse your candidacy. Return the completed petition to SC-216 or L-133.

Student Government Scholarships

As your Student Government, one of our priorities is fundraising money to create three scholarships for students. Currently we supply:

  • NECC Campus Inclusion Leader Award for $250
  • Distinguished Leader Award for $500
  • NECC Rising Leader Award for $250

If you are interested and/or eligible please apply using the scholarship application. The deadline is May 1, 2019.

A regular meeting of the Northern Essex Community College Student Government Association was held on 4/25/19 at the NECC Haverhill Campus. A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 4:04 pm. The President, Matt Day, presided over the meeting. The minutes for the previous meeting were presented for last week.
